A.C. Whyte welcome Renfrewshire Student for Work Experience

Our recent project with Renfrewshire Council, to carry out roof and render works to properties across Glenburn, Foxbar, Paisley, Corseford, Johnstone Castle, Renfrew, Elderslie, Bishopton, Inchinnan, Howwood, Linwood, Lochwinnoch and Gallowhill meant we could invite local Renfrewshire student into A.C. Whyte for a week of work experience.

Local Renfrewshire Student, is interested in construction and was excited to learn how a large business such as A.C. Whyte could retain its family feel.

We wanted to give him as realistic an experience as possible and planned a week of activity that ensured exposure to the various areas of the business.  With supervision, we gave him real responsibility by giving him tasks that would play an important part of our working week.

Our H&S Manager John Gallacher gave him an introduction to the importance of Health & Safety by explaining how every member of the team plays their part in keeping sites safe.

Our Marketing department involved him in a photography shoot, allowing him to see the creative process as well as the planning and execution. He showed a real eye for detail.

It was so good to be given real things to do and I now realise just how many jobs are available to me in Construction and Energy Efficiency.  I’ve loved my time with the A.C. Whyte team, you can tell they really love what they do. – Local Renfrewshire Student

He also joined the Customer Engagement team as they delivered training to our Akademos at the A.C. Whyte Skills Academy.  He heard how the team empowered the Akademos to do their bit in adopting a ‘right first time approach’.  He spoke to some of the Akademos and was motivated to hear how they had found a passion in life and were excited about their future with A.C. Whyte.

Our trainee Quantity Surveyor Callum explained how he is working full time whilst attending university to gain his degree in Quantity Surveying, giving him some insight into what’s involved in his job.

Local Renfrewshire Student also helped get things ready for our Staff Day and was very passionate about making sure he did things to absolute perfection.

Local Renfrewshire Student spent the week asking questions, listening to instructions and asking for clarity when needed.  He even offered us some advice on how he would expand the business.
