A.C. Whyte bring community benefits to Sandyflats in Johnstone

A.C. Whyte have recently delivered a programme of render works to 29 4-in-a-blocks within the Sandyflats area of Johnstone, on behalf of Linstone Housing Association. With every project, A.C. Whyte immerse themselves in the local area to fully understand the residents needs and aim to go the extra mile to find the best possible solution, with the view of delivering a tailored community benefits plan with real, tangible outcomes.

A.C. Whyte engaged with both Linstone Housing Association and the Sandyflats Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, to gain an understanding of what would bring the best value to their community. Shaun Mitchell, Chairperson at Sandyflats T.A.R.A had plans to appoint a local artist to design a mural for the ‘USave’ shop wall. The local shop is known as the ‘heart’ of their community and mural design plans were delayed due to COVID-19.  It was agreed that A.C. Whyte would prepare, render and paint the external walls as well as install new railings to the local shop, to allow for a clean surface to paint the mural onto.

On reflection of what has been a difficult year, the residents of Sandyflats took an inspiring, different approach and appointed local artist Dair Graff to paint a mural of a tree. The residents of Sandyflats each had a timeslot to add their handprint, Shaun said:

This is a tremendous community achievement. We thought the shop, which is very important to our community could do with a new look so we’re very grateful to the willingness of A.C. Whyte and others to help us make that happen. The tree symbolises our ‘unity in the community’ approach as we endeavour to do what we can to support the residents of Sandyflats and during the current health emergency that has never been more important.

Adele Fraser, CEO of Linstone Housing Association said:

“Sandyflats is a vibrant community and the Residents’ Association is to be commended for its initiative. The redecorated shop looks splendid and the tree was an inspiring idea which provides a focal point for the great work being done locally by A.C. Whyte.”

A.C. Whyte were recently awarded a contract to deliver roof and render works to a further 54 properties across Johnstone and Linwood, due to kick off early January 2021. John McIntyre, Contracts Manager at A.C. Whyte said:

At A.C. Whyte, we pride ourselves on delivering real, tangible outcomes for local communities in which we work, we have enjoyed working with Linstone Housing Association this year and look forward to continuing our partnership into the new year. The area of Sandyflats is looking fantastic and the sentiment behind the tree mural on the shop is a very important message, we were delighted to be a part of it.
