Retrofit of 214 properties in Tarbolton, South Ayrshire

This mixed-tenure project, delivered in partnership with South Ayrshire Council and the Energy Agency, involved retrofitting properties in the rural village of Tarbolton as part of the Scottish Government’s Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Schemes (EES).

The scope included the design, supply, and installation of external wall insulation for up to 215 homes and re-roofing for 61 properties, all adhering to PAS2030:2019 principles where practicable. Located in an off-gas community reliant on oil boilers, the project adopted a fabric-first approach to improve thermal efficiency and lay the groundwork for future renewable energy upgrades.

The Results

We provided a fabric-first approach, achieving substantial EPC upgrades, and implemented a tailored engagement strategy to ensure full access and build trust with residents. By using innovative materials, we maximised funding and delivered a cost-effective, sustainable solution that met the client’s goals.

As a result, we completed works on 214 properties within a six-month period, delivering significant improvements in energy performance. Properties were upgraded from pre-EPC ratings of D, E, and F to post-EPC ratings of B and C, demonstrating the substantial impact of the retrofit measures on both thermal efficiency and sustainability.
