Tommy Campbell and Bobby Mills from our team are a dynamic duo with a shared passion for inspiring young adults to pursue careers in construction. They recently visited Leith Academy as part of our community benefits commitment for the City of Edinburgh Council, where we have recently completed whole-house retrofit works.
As part of the community benefits initiative, Tommy and Bobby led a practical skills workshop for 70-80 S3 pupils, providing hands-on experience in roof tiling, energy efficiency and bird box building. We supplied the roof rig, materials, PPE, and tools to ensure the students had everything they needed to participate fully.
Phil Dickson, at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, shared his feedback:
“I thought that both exercises were perfect for the S3s. As well as introducing them to careers in construction, they experienced a huge sense of achievement from doing something practical and physical. It was heart-warming to see how excited the pupils were, whether it was hammering in a nail or putting a screw in a bird box—activities that gave them an immediate confidence boost, which they don’t always get in other contexts.
Both Tommy and Bobby were incredible role models for our young people, and I’m sure they will remember this experience for a long time.”
We were delighted to attend and are thrilled that the pupils enjoyed their time with our team. Meanwhile, the retrofit works have been successfully completed, and residents are now benefiting from warmer, more energy-efficient homes thanks to the measures installed.
