Empowering Young People in Coatbridge

At A.C. Whyte, we partner with clients such as North Lanarkshire Council to deliver sustainable, place-based solutions that help them on their journey to net zero. On our project in Coatbridge, we are delivering full retrofit works on 53 properties within Derwent Drive and Lomond Road.

A key part of our community benefits obligation is to provide opportunities for local people. We have delivered six work placements on this project, as part of a wider community benefit delivery plan. This includes employment opportunities, practical skills training, site visits, and financial support for the Glenboig Life Centre.

Most recently, we welcomed Alastair through the Routes to Work Programme. During his placement, Alastair toured the site, accessed scaffolding where full roof removal and solar panel installations were in progress, and gained valuable experience under the supervision of Alex Neil, one of our longest-serving Site Managers and Tommy Campbell, Skills Academy Principal. Kirsty McCabe, External Link Worker at Routes to Work commented:

It’s been a pleasure collaborating with A.C. Whyte to organise work experience for Alastair recently. These opportunities play a vital role in supporting our less experienced or long-term unemployed clients into employment within the construction industry. Not only do we see our clients grow in ability and confidence, but these work placements also allow our clients to explore a variety of roles within an exceptionally vast and varied sector such as construction. Alastair’s recent placement was nothing but positive, it was wonderful to hear the feedback from both A.C. Whyte and Alastair himself. We look forward to working with you on other projects in the future.

At A.C. Whyte, we are deeply committed to empowering young people by offering them exposure to careers in construction and supporting their journey into long-term employment.

Works in Coatbridge are due for completion in December 2024 and residents are already seeing a vast improvement in their fuel bills.
