As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, the theme is ‘Build the Future’, focusing on helping individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required to help deliver our energy efficient future and meet Scotland’s ambitious net zero targets. The construction sector is an innovative, high in demand industry where the career possibilities are endless. Decarbonisation and ensuring our existing homes and buildings are energy efficient, is key to meeting these ambitions.

The type of works A.C. Whyte deliver, adopting a fabric first approach is crucial and we have taken steps to address the skills shortage to achieve this, such as the introduction of our A.C. Whyte Skills Academy and recruitment of Apprenticeships, across our sites.

A.C. Whyte recently welcomed Roofing Apprentice Kerr Brookes to our team, Kerr originally applied for our A.C. Whyte Skills Academy but took a strong interest in being a roof tiler having previously completed his pre-app construction course in Roof Tiling.

A.C. Whyte offered him the opportunity to learn and work alongside some of our most experienced roof tilers. Kerr has been working in Mauchline, East Ayrshire this week and is showing great enthusiasm for the role, he has a bright future ahead of him. Congratulations Kerr and welcome to the team!
